Mithada Maheman opens on a bleak premise and then refuses to stay bleak. Aditya is ready to end his life when three strangers stumble into his plan, and what follows swings between grief, slapstick and a run of unexpected turns. It is a tricky tonal balance, and debutant director Chinmay Parmar mostly holds it together by keeping the film moving and the characters warm rather than letting the darkness settle in.
The casting helps. Yash Soni carries the emotional load as Aditya, Aarohi Patel brings a lightness as Komal, and Mitra Gadhavi and Hiten Kumar round out a bench that keeps the humour grounded rather than shrill. Reviewing for the Times of India, Kanksha Vasavada gave the film three and a half stars, praising the heartwarming storytelling, the performances and the music while noting a first half far stronger than a second that tends to drag. Released nationwide on Good Friday, 18 April 2025, it was pitched squarely at the family holiday crowd.
That critical verdict sits above its more middling 6.2 on IMDb, and the gap is telling. This is not a film that reinvents anything, and its message about holding on to life is delivered with a broad brush that undercuts the darker premise it opens on. The sensitive subject of suicide is used more as a setup than something the film fully reckons with. But as a family watch with real feeling under the jokes, backed by producers who include Vash director Krishnadev Yagnik, it does enough to justify the ticket. Go in for warmth and easy laughs rather than surprise, and Mithada Maheman is a pleasant enough evening.
