Vitamin She arrived in July 2017 as the film that pulled Gujarati audiences back into theatres, riding a six week run and a place among the higher grossing Dhollywood titles of its era. It is a romantic comedy built entirely around Jigar, a carefree insurance agent played by RJ Dhvanit Thaker in his first feature, who is talked into finding a girlfriend and then discovers that love, in his words, comes with an expiry date. Faisal Hashmi frames the whole thing from a man's point of view and admits as much: Shruti, played by Bhakti Kubavat, is deliberately drawn as one man's simplified idea of a woman.
Critics mostly enjoyed it without mistaking it for something profound. Divya Bhaskar handed it four out of five and called it a proper weekend watch, crediting Hashmi's assured direction. BuddyBits landed at three and a half, praising the performances, Mehul Surti's music and the dialogue. Shruti Jambekar of the Times of India settled on three, a decent entertainer lifted by its cast and songs, while Newsfolo agreed at the same mark. The holdout was Jayesh Adhyaru of DeshGujarat, who at two and a half loved the soundtrack but found the pace and the writing wanting.
That split is the honest read on the film. The premise, that men and women are wired to misread each other, is old ground, and the voiceover heavy narration occasionally turns preachy. What carries it is charm: Thaker is easy to watch, the hero's three friends steal their scenes, and Surti's Chhokri and Maachhalio Ude were hits before the film even opened. Its IMDb score sits at a modest 5.4, which feels low for something this likeable, but Vitamin She was never chasing prestige. It set out to send couples home smiling, and on that count it delivered.
