Naadi Dosh (2022) Review

Naadi Dosh 2022 poster

Riddhi falls for her workplace colleague Kevin and, after winning him over, the two families agree to take the match forward. Their plans stall when an astrologer flags a naadi dosh, a clash between their birth charts that tradition warns can doom a marriage. The couple then sets out to outsmart the superstition standing between them.

Naadi Dosh reunites the Chhello Divas pair, Yash Soni and Janki Bodiwala, under director Krishnadev Yagnik, and it plays straight to that strength. Riddhi falls for her colleague Kevin, wins him over, and both families are ready to move ahead until an astrological reading throws up a naadi dosh, a chart clash that Gujarati marriage custom treats as a warning sign. The film turns that superstition into the obstacle a modern couple has to think its way around.

The appeal here is ease. Reviewers noted that no scene is stretched, the screenplay stays tight, and the production quality holds up, which is a large part of why the film ran to superhit numbers at the Gujarati box office. Soni and Bodiwala carry the kind of easy chemistry that sells them as a perfect couple, Raunaq Kamdar fills out the support, and the Kedar-Bhargav soundtrack, led by Lavva Lavvi and Chandaliyo Ugyo Re, folds neatly into the romance. The first half leans comic and light, the second shifts toward the emotional weight of a family standing in the way.

It is not reaching for depth. The idea that blind belief should not break a good match is delivered plainly, and the beats of the millennial-love-versus-tradition story are familiar ones. What lifts it is a crew that clearly knows its audience: a clean family entertainer with real laughs, hummable songs, and two leads people already wanted to see paired again. It landed as one of 2022's more successful Gujarati releases, and it works best on those terms, a warm, unfussy Sunday-with-the-family watch rather than a film with anything sharp to say.
